Genertec ITC Facilitates the Building of the Largest OSRV in China’s Maritime System

The building of a medium-sized oil spill recovery vessel (OSRV) entrusted by the Hebei Maritime Safety Administration began on June 30 in Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. China International Tendering Co., Ltd. (ITC), a subsidiary of Genertec, is the tendering agency. A ceremony was held in the Shuangliu base of the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group to mark the beginning of the construction. Leading officials and guests from Hebei Maritime Safety Administration, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group, Genertec ITC, the Wuhan branch of the China Classification Society, the 708th Research Institute of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, and the Dalian branch of the China Classification Society Industrial were present at the ceremony. During the event, ITC communicated with Hebei Maritime Safety Administration and Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group for further cooperation.

Tendering for the vessel started in January 2020. Following the guidance of China’s Maritime Safety Administration under the Ministry of Transport and staying committed to its mission of delivering top-notch services, Genertec ITC worked closely with Hebei Maritime Safety Administration while overcoming challenges of recurring COVID-19 outbreaks. The two sides finished bid opening and evaluation in the public resource trading center in the Qinhuangdao Economic and Technological Development Zone on August 24, 2022.

Funded by Hebei Maritime Safety Administration and designed by the 708th Research Institute of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, the vessel is the largest OSRV in China’s maritime system. It is expected to be completed and delivered in 2024, and will be deployed in waters around Beidaihe. Its mission is to clean the ocean and recover spilled oil in emergency response.
