CMC Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway in Bangladesh

A ceremony was held on November 12 to inaugurate the construction work of Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway in Bangladesh. China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CMC) is the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor of the project. Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, attended the ceremony via video link and delivered a speech. The ceremony was also attended by more than 2,300 people, including Bangladeshi minister of the road, transport and bridges and other senior officials, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming, heads of CMC, representatives from subcontractors and team leaders of CMC.

Hasina said China, as a good friend of Bangladesh, has helped her country build many important projects. She expressed appreciation to China and Chinese President Xi Jinping for the support and assistance to Bangladesh. After its completion, the project will alleviate traffic jam in Dhaka and spur a GDP growth of 0.21 percent for the country.

Ambassador Li Jiming said the expressway project will improve the traffic in Bangladesh and enable the country to play an important role in regional connectivity. It is another example for the alignment of Bangladesh’s long-term development plan Vision 2041 with the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, which will benefit the people in both countries, Li said.
