The Sirajganj 68 MW Solar Power Plant project in Bangladesh, undertaken by Genertec CTC, successfully passed the Commercial Operation Test (COT) of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and obtained the commercial operation certificate on August 20, marking the project’s official entry into the commercial operation phase.
Renewable Energy Company (Pvt.) Limited (BCRECL), a platform for investment, construction, and operation jointly invested by Genertec CMC (a business unit of Genertec International) and North-West Power Generation Company Ltd., Bangladesh. BCRECL holds a total installed capacity quota of 500 MW of renewable energy approved by the Government of Bangladesh and is, so far, the largest renewable energy investment and construction project company with investment from a Chinese enterprise in Bangladesh.
Located in Rajshahi Division of central Bangladesh, the Sirajganj 68 MW Solar Power Plant project covers a total area of 214 acres and possesses 157,000 pieces of photovoltaic modules. With construction commenced in July 2022, the project achieved financial close in June 2024 and successfully completed inverse feeding at the booster station at one time on June 22, 2024, meeting conditions for connecting to the grid.
After going into operation, the project is expected to provide clean energy to 65,000 local households, which amounts to saving 43,000 tons of standard coal and reducing about 110,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Therefore, it will significantly enhance Bangladesh’s clean energy utilization, facilitate local green development and energy transition, and contribute positively to addressing global climate change.
