Kicking off the new year on a high note, the Payra Thermal Power Plant in Bangladesh delivered outstanding 2025 results, generating 8.726 billion kWh of electricity, up 10% from 2024. This output met about 8% of Bangladesh’s annual electricity demand, ensuring a stable and reliable energy supply in the country.
Despite challenges such as extended procurement cycles for spare parts, both Unit 1 and Unit 2 reported zero unplanned outages in 2025. Annual operating hours reached 8,758.8 and 7,963.5 hours, respectively, with Unit 1 operating continuously for 367 days. Key technical and economic indicators met or surpassed design standards, with overall performance significantly exceeding the industry average for comparable units.
These steady operational improvements reflect the long-standing commitment of the project team to safe production and lean operation. Through continuous optimization of operational management processes and enhanced full-lifecycle maintenance of equipment by this team, the reliability and supply assurance capacity of the units have been steadily improved. Looking ahead, under the management of BCPCL, the Payra Thermal Power Plant will continue to pool superior resources to strengthen safe production, deepen refined operation management, and optimize the local energy mix and improve people’s livelihoods by delivering more efficient unit operations, more reliable power supply, and higher-quality services.
